The Wedding Present at the Northcroft Social Club

I went to see my favourite band (The Wedding Present) on Wednesday who were midway through a tour of New Zealand and Australia, at the Northcroft Social Club in Melbourne.

They've been going for years and I've seen them countless times. During the gig they announced that The Northcroft Social Club is the venue they've played most in the Southern Hemisphere (twice) and I later learnt that Sheffield  Leadmill (where I think I've seen them 3 times) is where they've played most in the Northern Hemisphere, so a double success for me!

The room was jam-packed full of old Brits re-living their youth and David Gedge (the lead singer and only constant in the 25 years of the band) played the band's 1987 album 'George Best' in its entirety, which was just fantastic as it contains many old favourites.

It was a great night out, and so excellent that they've toured these shores not just once (they came here last year) but also repeated it this year. I asked Mr Gedge whether he'd be back again anytime soon and he said that he would but probably not for 2 or 3 years. By then most of the crowd will be knocking on 50 - I guess eventually they'll have to play to venues with easy access ramps and plenty of disabled toilets.

Me and DLG (taken by my drinking buddy for the night - Ross)

Loving the Hickman beard look, plus bizarro tshirt, and the mad state from DLG, I bet Le Bon wouldn't look so cool :0)
