Floriade Night Fest

Floriade also has a few days of night-fest fun. It's an interesting take on the flower festival and the gardens are full of street entertainers and light. Here's some pictures of our night out..

Floriade

Floriade rolls round every spring. It's a lovely, annual (free) event in Canberra's Commonwealth Park. The local council has been in much discussion in recent years about moving the venue (the car park for the event occupies valuable building land right by the lake) but for the moment at least that seems to be off the table.

In truth, although every year has a different 'theme' the beds are fairly similar from one-year-to-the-next, but it's still a remarkable effort to get the event up and running and coach loads of people head in to see the flowers each year. This year they abandoned the 'retail village' and instead mixed the sellers in amongst the flowers. Personally I felt that it detracted from things, but I guess if it moved hedge trimmers and jars of spices then I'm sure it'll stay.

There's always a good amount of 'roving entertainment' as well. We met these two glam-rockers with big hair and even bigger boots.

Robotics Day at DFAT

We got an invite to a families of DFAT (Amy's old employers) on Sunday morning and found that it was both a fun and (really) well equipped day. The kids had fun programming and playing with numerous robots that they had on offer. The world will end up run by robots, so it's good to get to know them early. No problemo.

Audrey's art work

Audrey had to make a piece of artwork about helping others. There's been a lot of focus on the drought affecting Australia's farmers and Audrey made a polystyrene piece, signifying people and resources giving help.

I thought it was a pretty decent effort and she did almost all of it herself.
